Interval Drink With...Andrew Litton, Conductor
What are you drinking?
Bombay Sapphire martini straight up with olives, shaken not stirred!
How’s the season been going with the Bergen PO?
Exceptionally well. Attendance is up and we’re producing a lot of great new recordings.
Are the players looking forward to coming to the UK?
And how! Touring brings an orchestra to its top level. This visit will be one of our most
challenging yet, with four different programmes.
Have you had time to visit your old Bournemouth mates?
I saw them in January – I try to show up every season just to make sure everyone is behaving!
How do you relax?
I don’t really know how to relax. Eighteen months ago, I decided to have my
first-ever sabbatical. Then all these tempting offers came in and
my sabbatical shrank down to 10 days!
What’s the best bit about your job?
I decided I wanted to be a conductor when I was 10. Every day, when I give an upbeat somewhere
in the world, I marvel at how blessed I am to be living my dream. Working with the world’s
greatest musicians performing the world’s greatest music is the best part of my job.
